How to Bleed Vespa PX Front Disc Brake

At last, the problem with the Vespa PX front disc brake has been sorted, and I can now upload my tutorial. It turned out that the piston inside the master cylinder was stuck on. This was due to an aftermarket brake lever which had not been moulded correctly, pushing against the piston and keeping the brake on. With some filing the brake lever became a perfect fit and the issue was solved. Now lets get to it!

Firstly, remove the lid from the brake's master cylinder which sits on the handlebars. Once removed check the oil level, and if it is low, fill the master cylinder up. When filling the up the master cylinder make sure you have the handlebars facing straight or to the left, so that the oil does not run down the front of your scooter.

Next, undo the bleed nipple which sits on the brake caliper at the forks. Undo this by 1/2 a turn using a 12mm spanner. Make sure you connect a rubber hose to the bleed nipple, with a bowl or jug sitting underneath to catch the oil. Then pull the brake lever in and watch for oil coming out of the hose. Pump the lever a few items as well as holding it in. If you notice that the brake is pumping oil along with no air bubbles forming in the master cylinder, then proceed to close the bleed nipple with the brake lever pulled in. With the residue that has been collected in the oil bowl or jug, pour it back in to the master cylinder and repeat these steps a few more times until you are happy with how your brake feels.

I hope this short tutorial will help anyone who is stuck!
